On the Dissolution of Oppression

The oppressive society, in order to survive and perpetuate its oppression of the population, must, of necessity, seek to alienate us from each other. It must seek continually to sow suspicion of each other among us, to make us appear to each other as inhuman and untrustworthy, to pit us against each other and to tell us that "the others" are incapable, irrational, or evil. . . .
-Harvey Jackins (From writings on Reclaiming our Power)

Alternatively we can strive to recognize and claim the humanness in ourselves and in each other. We can seek out, find ways and learn to trust each other. I feel it is possible to learn genuine cooperation that is rooted in respect. We have to remind each other continually that within every contentious pattern of behaviour there is a person -- good, dependable, and a natural ally of ourselves. Above all we have the capacity to seek and promote unity among all groups that have been divided, conquered and alienated from each other by the operation of oppression.

In solidarity, love, rage and respect,
till there is peace for all Peoples.
